Someone gave me a gout remedy of 1/2 tsp of baking soda in water. Is this safe for gastric bypass? I want to discuss with my PCP, too. Thanks.

I am not a doctor, but my gut feeling says that consuming baking soda may not be ideal for our baby pouches.  Baking soda is used as a tooth cleaner and to keep our fridges fresh.  The "soda" part is the part that scares me.
Let the medical people answer this one.  Question

Baking soda is not recommended after weight loss surgery.
Remember, baking soda causes baked products to "rise", so not a good idea to use with a small stomach.

Ok ... what about baking soda toothpaste?  I just bought Arm and Hammer Baking Soda Sensitive toothpaste ... I don't swallow it (of course, I'm not 2 years old!) so I'm thinking it should be fine ...

also, what about baking soda IN a recipe?

Baking soda in toothpaste is fine.  You are not swallowing it.  And the baking soda in a recipe has already perofrmed it's chemical interaction in the baking process.
