How long after bariatric surgery does St. Luke's Bariatrics require you to get yearly routine bloodwork?

I am not a medical person, but it is my understanding that bariatric patients need to do routine bloodwork annually for life.  The RNY is a metabolic altering surgery; therefore, it is best to be a compliant participant for life.

I'm going to bump this question up because I think it was overlooked.

I'll post to bump it up again. However, I agree with Nadia. My recollection is that as Bariatric patients, we are to follow the St. Luke's rules, take our supplements, and have yearly Bariatric Doctor appointments/blood work for the rest of our lives.

Just read my monthly Support Group email reminder from the St. Luke's team and sure enough, the last page warns of this very necessity and tells you to call the office for an appointment stat if you do not have such a yearly appointment.

I'm sorry I didn't see this before now. Our surgeons would like to follow their patients for the rest of their lives. One very important thing is to have yearly lab work done so that your vitamin levels and blood chemistries can be evaluated. This can be done at your surgeons office or through your family MD.

Thank you Terri (and everyone else), my next question was going to be...if the lab work should be done yearly for the rest of your life, could your regular family doctor do it?   And you answered that, Terri!!!!! TY, TY!!!

We can also supply a list of the recommended lab work as well. When you originally had your surgery, we sent a letter with our recommendations to the family MD you had listed. Over the course of years, some things have changed but vitamin levels are a must to monitor.
